THE HISTORIC DESERT INN RESORT AND CASINO AWARDED AAA FOUR DIAMOND RATING FOR 2000

LAS VEGAS - The Desert Inn Resort & Casino was awarded the 2000 Four Diamond rating by AAA for its lodging facilities, as well as its signature restaurant, Monte Carlo. The resort is one of only seven hotels in Las Vegas to receive this distinction, and Monte Carlo is the only restaurant in the city of Las Vegas to achieve the Four Diamond rating.

"AAA Four Diamond winners consistently exceed the association's requirements by providing a skilled and attentive staff, high level of customer service and top-of-the-line amenities and ambiance," said Richard Purvis, district manager of the Nevada division of AAA.

"These establishments are truly in a class of their own, as only an estimated five percent of the nearly 24,000 AAA-rated properties and five percent of the more than 10,000 AAA-approved restaurants are Four Diamond recipients," Purvis said.

Four Diamonds are awarded to "excellent properties displaying a high level of service and hospitality. These properties offer a wide variety of amenities and upscale facilities in the guest rooms, on the grounds and in the public areas," according to AAA.

Elegance in surroundings and excellence in service are a trademark of the historic Desert Inn, which also features the only golf course on the Las Vegas Strip.

For the fourth year in a row, Monte Carlo has received the prestigious Four Diamond rating. Guests of Monte Carlo dine amidst gracious, elegant decor, reminiscent of the charm and romance of the world-famous C?te d'Azur. The menu features French classics such as roasted duck ? l'Orange with a touch of vanilla, quails stuffed with honey, green apples and raisins and lamb chops draped with Roquefort sauce, almonds, fruits and rosemary.

AAA's team of professional field inspectors drive more than one million miles each year conducting unannounced evaluations of lodgings and restaurants. Those establishments that qualify are assigned a rating of one to five diamonds.

The Desert Inn Resort will celebrate its Fiftieth Birthday in April of 2000. This historic Las Vegas landmark first opened its doors on April 24, 1950 as Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn.
