22/04/2001 Chinese police arrest organizers of Internet gambling service provider
Chinese police recently raided an online gambling service provider in Liaoyang, in northeast China.
The online casino, established in November last year, had proven to be an extremely lucrative business for its founders, including a college graduate majoring in computer science. The police revealed that on March 15 alone, 145 people gambled at the gambling website with chips worth of 96,000 yuan.
This February, one of the organizers was arrested by the police when he tried to open a branch in Chifeng, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Although these are some of the first such raids that have been reported, with the promise of easy money for organizers and players alike, they certainly will not be the last.
