| Can’t Remember Where You Parked Your Car? |
20/04/2002 Veteran comedy writer Ted Bergman brings his ground breaking comedy revue, Whoops! Or How to Age Ungracefully to Las Vegas, opening at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theater, four days only, June19th through the 23rd. Bergman maintains that Whoops! is making history because it is the, “Only world class, fall down funny comedy revue that is aimed at, and stars older people.” Bergman, whose credits include The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, All in the Family, Sanford and Son and The Garry Shandling Show, debuted the show in Northern California in 1999. “Word of mouth was incredible.” Bergman says. “We never had an empty seat.” He also says with a straight face that Whoops! is the only comedy that aims its humor at people who can't remember where they parked their car. “If you're over forty, you'll laugh a lot”, he adds. “If you're over fifty, you'll laugh even more. If you're over sixty, it's like Saturday Night is still alive and suddenly you're ‘hip' again.” Besides flipping the funny finger at aging, Bergman hopes that the show will help dispel some of the stereotypes about older people, that they are conservative, out-of-date and only interested in their health. (Although he will admit there's a character in the Middle-Aged Rap Group that laments, “I eat right, exercise, I'm no dope, but my prostate's the size of a cantaloupe.”) The show also features a comedy dance company called The River Dance Rejects and “America's hottest new comedy team”, Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Whoops! also pokes fun at everything from the high cost of prescription drugs to dating and divorce after Fifty. There's even a bone cracking routine by The Senior Cheerleading Champions and a visit from the President of the Senile Citizens Anti-Defamation League. The show kicks off Thursday, June 20th, with two matinees a day at 1:00 and 4PM, continuing through Sunday, June 23rd.
